1969 AMC Javelin data, information, pictures, VIN ID, technical and performance info

Javelin sales for the first year were decent, so AMC kept the Javelin similar, making only small modifications. Some cosmetic changes were made to the styling, such as the removal of the “Javelin” tag to the grille, which was replaced by a bulls-eye logo. Bigger changes were on the Go Package. These included fake hood scoops that were filled in with black plastic.

Interior changes included standard interior vinyl colors of white and charcoal, with the SST having many more option for colors. The SST also had wood grain overlays on door armrests and the dash panel, and the Rally Pak was gone.

Some interesting options late in the model year included a roof spoiler, and simulated side exhaust rocker panels. There was also a performance upgrade option late in the model year, which included a front ball double joint suspension. For $600 more, this option did not sell well.

Big Bad Colors
AMC released three new colors in the mid 1969 model year, on both the Javelin and AMX. These new colors were named Big Bad Blue, Big Bad Orange, and Big Bad Green, and were very bright, almost florescent. The bumpers were also painted the same bright colors, and were not chrome. The Big Bad Colors could be ordered on any Javelin, from the 232 six cylinder to the SST and Go Packages. It seemed the marketing idea behind these wacky colors was the hippy movement/drug scene of the late 1960’s. The ads and brochures for the Big Bad Colors had a psychedelic and wavy look to them.

1969 AMC Javelin Engine Types, Specifications, and performance data

Engine
The 1969 Javelin engine choices stayed mainly the same from 1968 to 1969, except the 343 two barrel was not an option. The Go Package once again consisted of the 343 or 390 engine, teamed with Carter AFB and dual exhaust.

Transmission
The standard 3 speed column shift on the 1968 model was changed to a floor shifter. Four speed models did not have a floor console, and mid year the 4 speed was teamed with a Hurst OEM Competition Plus shifter, replacing the previous bought Ford shifter.
