Up until its demise in 2004, Oldsmobile was the longest running American car brand. The company was founded in 1897, and by 1901 they produced 425 cars that year, making them the highest output car manufacturer. Oldsmobile became the top selling auto manufacturer for a few years, but then ran into financial difficulties and was purchased by GM in 1908.
