1946 REO Truck
Cool old 1946 wrecker project. I've had this truck for years with intentions of finishing it enough to move old rigs and parts around. I have another old wrecker, so I never made it a priority to work on this. I have many projects, so decided to move on from this. In the listing, there will be a pics of a couple similar truck. Those arent mine. The truck for sale is the one with the boom and no box. I planned to build it like the 4x4 pictured with a stepside box. There is also a picture of a green factory pickup. Just wanted to clarify that. That is how I was going to finish it, but this truck doesn't need much work to yard drive. I've driven it before. Clear title. All the other details on the truck are below. Feel free to ask questions. Please read payment requirements. I accept wire transfer only. Your bank can help you with that if you need, and it's pretty easy. I can help arrange shipping if needed. This is not a real large truck, so shipping should be about the price of a full size 4x4 pickup. Thank you.
MECHANICAL
This truck has a non-original chevrolet six cylinder. I believe it's a 235, but non 100% on that. I have ran and drove the truck before, but the block is cracked. I'm sure you could fix it with a block crack repair kit or a stitching kit. It would be fine then for lot driving but I don't know that I'd trust it for long distances lol. You can use it without fixing the block, it just leaks water out the crack. It does not get any water in the oil or oil in the water. The motor ran good and didn't smoke. The transmission worked fine and the clutch was smooth and didn't slip. At some point I borrowed the carburetor for a different rig. They are easy to buy new or used. I may have one to include. The truck rolls and steers fine. I don't know that I ever checked the brakes. The wrecker boom has 1 HD hydraulic ram. The truck comes with a 12v hydraulic power unit. It is power up, and gravity down. To get the boom functional, it will just need one hydraulic hose, and the unit mounted and a 12v wire ran to it. The unit is small and will mount easily on the wrecker body or in front. You can build/buy a wrecker sling easily. Buying would be easier and I could possibly help find you one. Most commercial wreckers don't use slings anymore, so they are not hard to find. It would be pretty easy to build a wheel lift that is lifted with the boom. I think most people reading this ad understand that this isn't a wrecker you would normally use for commercial wrecking. It would be good though for parades, junkyards, classic car enthusiasts, etc. The tires are all old and will probably last forever, but not nice. This truck has the 2-speed rearend, which I have never used. It would be handy to use for highway driving, because the truck is most likely low geared. I don't believe there is a radiator in it now, but I have it and it will be included.
BODY
The body is really clean and I don't believe there is any rust-through in the sheetmetal. The doors both open/close/latch properly The hood opens up but does not stay up on it's own. It probably has a prop rod on the hood but I forgot if it does. All the glass in this is flat glass, so it's all cheap to replace if you choose. I do believe it's all usable though. You can build stepside boxes easily to get the look of the 4x4 truck pictured. You can build them from scratch and use trailer fenders like the 4x4 pictured. You can also get reproduction ford or gm box pieces to build. They sell stepside tailgates also, and some are not stamped with a make.
INTERIOR
There is very little interior to speak of in these, even when new. For lot driving/junkyard driving, I would just add a seat cover. I doubt floormats are reproduced, but I'm sure you could make one pretty easily or use carpet.
This old classic is sold as-is. Thanks for looking. I accept wire transfer only for payment. It is very safe and fast. Your bank can call my bank if needed if they'd like to confirm everything is legitimate. I need to have full payment received within three business days. Once payment is received, the title will be sent via priority mail. I will store the truck for one month free, and $50 a month after that. I'm easy to work with. I am happy to help arrange shipping if needed. You can price it with youship, but they are generally very high and try to gouge people who have never shipped a car.
