1963 Nova SS Convertible. All original, number matching survivor car. Original 194ci 6-Cylinder motor and Powerglide trans. 83,000 original miles. This is an unmolested, well cared for example of Nova history. This car was owned by a family who had all the service done at GM garages. Most of the hoses are stamped GM products and most of the hose clamps are the factory "ring" style.
1963 was the first year for the SS badging and trim package. There were only 25,000 Nova convertibles produced in 1963 TOTAL. There were LESS SS convertibles made. In 1963 the SS had not even become a MODEL for Chevrolet yet....it was only considered a trim package and there was no way to track the SS from the 400 model Novas. (SS was upgraded from a trim package to a separate model in 1964). Therefore, there was no way to tell how many convertibles were SS's and how many weren't.
This car is highly collectible for several reasons.
It was the FIRST Nova SS convertible ever made
It was the LAST Nova SS convertible ever made
It was the LAST year of the Nova convertible as production of Nova convertible was halted in 1964
It was the ONLY Nova SS with a 6-cylinder motor
Of Special Interest:
The underside of this car is ABSOLUTELY RUST FREE. If you have ever owned or restored a convertible, you know that these things are sieves for collecting water. The water is then held against the floor metal by the jute padding under the carpet rusting the floorboards and everything else. THERE IS NONE OF THAT HERE.
Everything works in this car excluding the clock and the radio (which is not stock). This includes the Speedometer, Gas gauge and Temp gauge (Gauges, not lights like in the lesser models) and all are very accurate, The engine runs well and starts easily (not to mention it is great on gas). The trans shifts smoothly and correctly.
New parts include:
Pertronix Electronic Ignition (no points)
Turn Signal Cancelling Cam
Upper Steering Column Bearing
The top is manual and is in very good condition. The rear window is very clear and not wrinkled, cracked, or yellowed. It comes with an original style top boot.
The car was recently computer aligned and drives straight (take your hands off the wheel straight) and true down the road.
The car is rolling on a like new set of 14" radial tires with the original SS hub caps (Not pictured) There is an excellent spare in the trunk.
The Interior on this car is in EXCELLENT condition. The door panels are like new, the carpet is nice and the seats are comfortable to sit in. The car rides nice, and is easy to drive. I have owned several special interest vehicles, and this one gets the most attention going down the road. It is truly a fun car to drive.
Please understand, this is not a show car, but it is a VERY NICE driver quality car. The value is in its heritage and collectability. It is more of an investment.
The NADA Classic Car Blue Book High Retail price for this car is $42,000.....look it up (The Kelley Blue holds it higher) If a person were to take the time to do a minor restore on this car, it would be well worth the effort and if you felt the need to sell it, it may even bring some profit. Unmolested models like this are getting harder to find every day. My guess is there are very few of them left nationally.
